The more we learn about Uber, the more obvious its evilness becomes. The latest piece of information sheds light on a top secret program called “Hell” that was used to undermine one of their biggest competitors: Lyft.
The Hill reports:
The Hell program involved creating fake Lyft accounts and using software to fool the company’s system into thinking the accounts were in a certain location. Uber could then track the nearest Lyft drivers to the fake location.
According to the report, Hell operators made sure to arrange the locations of the fake accounts throughout a particular city to make sure they could view the entire area.
Uber would not comment for the report, but Lyft said in a statement, “We are in a competitive industry. However, if true, these allegations are very concerning."
That is pretty evil. And it isn’t like Uber didn’t know it; CEO Travis Kalanick made sure that knowledge of the program’s existence was limited to just a few top execs. Perhaps Uber wouldn’t be in so much trouble if Kalanick and gang worked hard on making a good company that treats its employees well. Now instead of having happy employees and customers, they’re dealing with the PR nightmare of being such a deeply hated business — from both inside the company and out.
