Fellow Democrats:
I’m Susan Platt, Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia.
All across the country, voters have the chance to stand up and speak out against Donald Trump’s divisive and dangerous agenda. We don’t have to wait until 2020 or even 2018 to make our voices heard. We can do it right now.
You’ve probably heard about the recent special Congressional election in Kansas, where Democrats came close to capturing a deep-red district. Tomorrow, voters go to the polls in Georgia, with a chance to replace Obamacare-hater Secretary Tom Price with progressive Democrat Jon Ossoff.
But it’s not just Georgia tomorrow. Elections are happening across America -- and electing our Democratic candidates is our way of showing Donald Trump that we will resist, persist, organize, and win.
While I’m running my own campaign to be Virginia’s first woman Lieutenant Governor, my primary election isn’t until June 13 -- so I’ve been busy helping a candidate running in an important special election in my backyard.
Prince William County voters, just a short distance from our nation’s capital, will have a chance to elect Democrat Jackie Smith as Clerk of Courts. Jackie has spent her life serving Virginians who aren’t able to afford traditional legal services. She has helped countless families afford access to the judicial branch and would be an excellent public servant to represent Prince William County.
Talking to voters is how elections are won, particularly at the local level. So, my campaign staff and I have made calls and gone door to door.
For years, I’ve been encouraging women to run for office and giving them the tools and training they need to win. Never has that work been more important than after the election of Donald Trump. Even with my own campaign going on, I can’t help but get out there and campaign on behalf of other candidates, particularly women like Jackie.
Note to voters in Prince William County: Polls are open tomorrow (Tuesday, April 18) from 6AM to 7PM. Voting takes place at your normal polling locations. Be sure to get out there and send a message to Donald Trump.
If you’re not in Prince William County but want to help elect a great Democrat, give Jackie a last-minute boost by making a contribution right now.
