Dawn is finally breaking over marble head as members of the electorate FINALLY figure out that DJT cannot be trusted.
While Dems keep fantasizing that people make voting decisions based on facts and issues, Republicons know that TRUST is the most important reason why people vote for candidates.
That’s why when they are running against Dems and have nothing factual they can attack, their ads go straight to “So-and-So cannot be trusted”.
Repeating it often enough can plant the idea in the minds of the gullible. And let us always keep in mind that “gullible” is a word that accurately describes millions and millions of people.
Sadly, part of the reason DJT “won” was that people trusted him.
I know, I know, it sounds ridiculous to those of us who see CON MAN written all over him and who are aware of the broken promises and broken deals he has gotten away with all his life.
But folks who had been hearing that HRC was untrustworthy for 30 years were primed to accept that any other Republicon was automatically more trustworthy. And the single issue voters, especially ammosexuals and forced birth advocates, feel they have no choice except to vote for Republicons because Dems have already made it clear we are in favor of gun safety laws and legal abortion care.
All this adds up to deplorables thinking (erroneously) they could trust DJT on their pet issues and could not trust HRC.
But in less than 100 days, some of those people are moving from deplorable to persuadable, as they finally (FINALLY!!!) start to open their eyes and compare the reality of how DJT acts to the impression of him that Fakes News had successfully created in their minds. Members of the Rcon base who would have said he knows what to do in a trench last November are figuring out that he is just making it up as he goes along, and even wondering if maybe some unelected adviser is making these momentous life and death decisions for him.
Several recent polls bear this out.
Kerry Eleveld wrote yesterday about a Gallup Poll showing a 17 point drop in the number of people who believe DJT keeps his promises. After several weeks of watching one promise after another go unfulfilled, they feel stupid that they believed all his tough talk about what he would do “on day one”. He is underwater with all groups except male, Republican, conservatives, and over 55. (No surprise there.)
Look at these drops in just two months:
A Marist Poll from April 14 shows an even starker loss of confidence when it comes to DJT and his ability to handle foreign affairs and international crises. “When faced with an international crisis, majorities of Americans have little or no trust in President Trump to weigh all the options before taking action, make the right decisions, work well with our allies, or to come up with a sound strategy. On each of these questions, at least 55% of Americans lack confidence in the president.”
Then there is a CBS poll from April 13 that specifically asks about North Korea. “56 percent of respondents described themselves as “uneasy” about President Trump’s capabilities, while 39 percent said they were “confident” in his ability.”
And this polling was before the DJT administration made a series of misleading statements about the USS Vinson and claimed we had an “armada” heading toward a confrontation in the East China Sea.
Foreign policy has long been the only place where voters gave the Republicons more credit than Democrats for knowing what they are doing. DJT being underwater on these measures, and the numbers being in decline since January, are very good signs for the Blue Team.
This polling doesn’t even get to all the domestic promises he has broken and positions he has reversed. In addition to a total failure to repeal and replace Obamacare, there is a long list of other things he said he would do that he has not done.
What is happening with the Great Wall of Drumpf? Nothing. What is happening with job creation? Nothing. What is happening with term limits for Congress? Nothing.
NATO is not obsolete. Janet Yellen—he likes her? China is not a currency manipulator if they “help us out” with North Korea.
He said he would not rule by executive order. He said would stay in the White House and not take expensive golf vacations all the time. He said he would not give ambassadorships (and cabinet positions?) to people just because they were political donors. He promised the kids wouldn’t do business deals! He promised he would stop sending crazy tweets!
Slowly his supporters are figuring out he will say whatever he needs to say in any given moment, and if he needs to say something else in the next moment, he will say that. And most of them have no idea about all the contractors he has stiffed and swindled, including the company that worked overtime to finish his DC hotel right before the election, and painters who worked on Mar-A-Lago. If that information were more widely known that would almost certainly tank his reputation in the heartland.
I am always quoting that expression “your enemy will teach you how to defeat him”. What that originally meant was if you watch your enemy closely enough he will reveal his weaknesses and the best way to exploit them.
But I am beginning to feel that DJT might destroy himself on his own.
I trusted you till I learned the score, now I-I-I don’t trust you, any more.
