I read an article on CNN a week ago about the United Airlines fiasco. I am generally a sympathetic fellow, but I confess that I am not sorry for United Airlines and their difficulties, after their unconscionable treatment of one of their passengers. They made that bed, let them lie in it.
The CNN article I read talked about corporate strategy for dealing with problems like that one. As you know, United got everything wrong.

The main points of the article were:
- Ditch the disingenuous apology.
- Don’t blame the victim.
- Be prepared.
- Steer clear of jargon.
I am not sure I agree with the order of those items. Obviously the company was not prepared. Their responses were as bad as the original incident.
I do have a few questions, though.
Why do we expect better behavior from SOME corporations than we expect from our national leaders?
Why do we hold corporations accountable for behavior, and not political leaders?
Why do we demand that corporations be prepared for crises when we elect a patently unqualified individual to the highest office in the land?
What argument can we make that corporations should meet a higher standard than the president and his miserable party? That party mastered the disingenuous, insincere ‘apology’ decades ago. That party blames victims all the time. That party lives in a world of jargon, and eschews real public SERVICE in every instance. So, why do we care more about what a corporation does than we care about what our leaders do?
Why do we care more about an incident of airline abuse, when citizens are subjected to worse treatment by law enforcement every single day?
Why the double standards? Anybody? Anybody?!
