So, this isn’t the original I had planned but there was too much good stuff to throw the whole thing out. The firing of Bill O’Reilly is a big deal. It spurred some thoughts ...
But first, a word from our sponsors ...

As a picture tells a thousand words
So there you have a little demonstration of sexual harassment. This happens in public, at work, and often inside relationships. It needs to be confronted and stopped. Now. By all of us, but especially the ones who identify as I do. Consent is everything. I don’t care at all what two (or more) consenting adults do. I do, however, care about non consensual activities. It seems antithetical to the whole concept of equality, not to mention basic human rights.
Bill O’Reilly, Sexual Predator
The words “industrial scale harassment” have been used to describe Mr O’Reilly’s behavior. The snarker in me is happy that at least he is in keeping with his politics. He has been advocating for business interests for 21 years on Fox News. So, yanno, industrial scale seems appropriate. But the human in me is disgusted by a man that can act this way.
What way, you ask? Well, let’s check the Guardian …
O’Reilly, host of Fox News’s biggest show, The O’Reilly Factor, is currently on vacation and had said he would return to work on Monday. But the future of the man dubbed “the king of cable news” had looked increasingly insecure after an internal investigation following a New York Times story that revealed Fox and O’Reilly had paid $13m in settlements to five women who accused the host of sexual harassment.
The Times’ story and subsequent allegations of impropriety sparked protests and a boycott from 50 advertisers, including car manufacturers Hyundai, BMW, Mitsubishi, insurer Allstate and drugmakers Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline.
Allegations have only grown in recent weeks, as pressure has mounted for Fox to act. On Tuesday, another former Fox News employee called a 21st Century Fox hotline to report allegations of sexual and racial harassment against him, according to her lawyer.
So, there you have it. This is a man who clearly views women as objects of his desire and clearly unable to say no to his advances. The man is a pig. The only surprising news to me is that Fox cares enough about the rest of us to cut ties with him. Of course, money spoke loudest in the form of lost ad revenue. Trust me, when Sanofi wants nothing to do with you, you are low.
Rape Culture in 5 Tweets
Recently, I became aware of Nafisa Ahmed’s beautiful analogy on Twitter. The 22 year old used money, which seems to resonate with conservatives, as an anology. Read the tweets and then let me know if you have any more questions.
As I said, we can discuss this at length in the comments.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

From BMScott:
This comment, by Quellist is a lovely, succinct statement of what ought not to require saying but apparently does, and his response comment to being called ‘an evolved man’ for saying it is delightful.
These are from SemDem’s diary Why We Can’t Ever Compromise Over Controlling Women’s Bodies. (Ed. note: From the same thread, I am adding ExpatGirl’s comment on a public chant that SHOULD be going viral, if it isn’t already!)
Highlighted by Radiowalla:
Is still ANOTHER Quellist comment in SemDem’s fine diary, this time with an apology, and a condemnation of patriarchy.
Highlighted by richholtzin:
Is this fine comment by rflctammt (entire thread is excellent dialogue between richholtzin and rflctammt!) on the limitless beauty in nature, and some of the insights time spent there makes possible. In richholtzin’s stunning diary on Canyonlands, Canyons of the Ancients and Capitol Reef. Well worth the visit!
Highlighted by progressive2016:
Is this comment with a terrific, clever chant by MadScientist in Mark E Anderson’s diary on the future of science in this country.
And! If you don’t check out anything else tonight, please go look at the magnificent protest signs in citisven’s terrific march blogathon diary! (I know it isn’t a comment, but go anyway!)
