If there’s one guy that could benefit from a little “session” listening to some jam band while staring at a blacklight poster of Jerry Garcia, it’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Sessions’ Department of Justice has reportedly reached out to Colorado justice officials about information on the state’s cannabis cases. This was not particularly shocking as everything Trump and his allies touch turn to cinder, and his administration had already implied that they would be using federal powers to go after recreational marijuana users. Colorado isn’t feeling particularly happy about Jeff Sessions’ bullying techniques and on Wednesday, the Colorado House passed a bill to protect their citizens from overzealous racist attorney generals.
The state House voted 56-7 Wednesday to bar public employees from assisting federal agents in "arresting a Colorado citizen for committing an act that is a Colorado constitutional right.”
The Colorado bill doesn't specifically mention marijuana. But sponsors say it is inspired by threats that federal authorities may try cracking down on the marijuana industry. Federal authorities generally rely on local law enforcement to enforce federal drug law.
The successes of Colorado’s loosened marijuana laws have come quickly and impressively, including moving excess tax dollars towards funding college scholarships. The people of Colorado do not see the invisible “bad hombres” that this Republican administration sees and I’m sure Jeff Sessions, supporter of states rights when it comes to discriminating against transgender people, will, at the very least, be consistent here.*
*He won’t be.
