Milwaukee’s disgrace of a sheriff David Clarke has rats leaving his rat-helmed ship. Once thought to be the heir to the throne of crapitude squatted on by Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Clarke’s shine has been wearing out as the real “results” of his law enforcement leadership come to light. Monday, a jury found that there was probable cause to charge at least seven Milwaukee County Jail staff members with the dehydration murder of 38-year-old Terrill Thomas in April of last year. This is bad news for the corrupt law enforcement crew led by Sheriff David Clarke, and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office on their “Don’t Tread on Me” Facebook page had this to report.
Corrections Captain George Gold, who was one of the subjects being investigated during the inquest into the death of an inmate, suddenly resigned over the weekend.
In April of last year, 38-year-old Terrill Thomas, without medication in solitary confinement, and awaiting a psychiatric evaluation, was left without water for seven days. He died as a result of this torturous and inhumane treatment, because one sure way to kill someone is to refuse to allow them water. During the inquest, Gold as well as other officers pointed fingers at everyone. In Gold’s defense, he was not suspected of any foul play himself, and may have been the only one to testify in contradiction to his higher ups.
The jail’s commander, Maj. Nancy Evans, testified Tuesday that she didn’t believe downloading the video was necessary because detectives initially said Thomas died of natural causes. She also said a corrections captain, George Gold, viewed the tape days after Thomas' death and reported to her that the video showed nothing suspicious.
Gold has testified that he saw Ramsey-Guy on the video enter a closet where water valves are located, presumably to turn off the water to Thomas’ cell. Nobody else entered the closet before Thomas’ death, Gold said.
Gold testified he reported this to Evans, but Evans never directed him to write a report or share the information. Evans denied the exchange.
I can only hope that Thomas, wherever he may be, can haunt all of these people’s waking hours until they atone for what they have done.
This was Sheriff Clarke’s response to the jury recommendations Monday.
Such a little snowflake.
