5. A Wisconsin man:
“I'm still, to this day, amazed he's our president. I think about it sometimes, and I can't believe it. Like I'll see him on TV, and I just can't believe he's the president. … I mean, one minute he's on this thing — you know, 'You're fired' and all that stuff — and the next thing he's, you know, we're sending missiles over to Syria. And I just, I'm just, I'm wowed.” (Again, this man and everyone else here voted for Trump.)
About the nicest thing that I can say about these comments is that I agree with many of these people quoted by Blake to the extent that it is simply difficult to pull the lever (or tap the touch screen, nowadays) for someone that you simply do not like.
And there’s both implicit and explicit levels of disdain for Hillary Clinton that bubbles up in nearly all of those comments that Blake excerpted.
Secondly, for all of the policy talk that we political junkies actually do here at The Great Orange Satan, I do think that other than an issue here and there, many voters actually do vote at more of a gut instinctual level.
All of the precisely prepared and detailed policy papers is of little or no use if the information doesn’t reach a voter at a visceral level.
Having said all of this quasi-analytical stuff, my own visceral reactions to reading these quotes is just….”Huh?”
Just…..wow, this country really has a lot of work to do...or something.
