Jon Ossoff and Karen Handel are once again giving voters in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District a strong contrast to base their choice on. House Republicans voted Thursday to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a Trumpcare bill that would gut protections for pre-existing conditions and strip access to health coverage from 24 million people. Karen Handel is all for it. Jon Ossoff is not.
Handel tried to weasel-word her support a little bit, saying “It is important that we not let the perfect be the enemy of the good” and “Today’s vote is the first step in a long process,” which translate to “I would totally have voted for this bill but I recognize that it is unpopular so I’m not going to cheer too loudly.”
Ossoff, on the other hand, listed some specific objections to the bill, saying on Wednesday that:
“The latest draft that I’m aware of is significantly worse than the American Health Care Act precisely because it does even less to protect those with preexisting conditions,” Ossoff said. “And those are children and families here in Georgia who need to be able to get affordable health insurance despite a preexisting condition.”
On Thursday, Ossoff followed up:
Handel’s weasel words vs. Ossoff’s straightforward explanation. Handel’s support vs. Ossoff’s opposition. It’s a clear choice.
Can you give $3 to help elect Jon Ossoff and send Republicans a message about health care?
