Oh Lord, I swear you can’t make this shit up. Just over a month ago I wrote a DIARY about that 3rd rate political player wanna be, Corey Lewandowski, and the trouble he was about to visit on his old boss. Just after the election, Corey and another Trump campaign deep cave dweller Barry Bennett had formed a consulting firm to cash in on their recent political fame and fortune, especially as regards to foreign companies and individuals. There were only two problems. First, Lewandowski was not registered as a lobbyist, so what good was he, and second, he was blatantly peddling direct access to Trump and other senior administration officials through his “contacts”. This is not good news for an administration that already suffers from an ethics deficiency.
I guess I wasn’t too far off the mark when I referred to Corey as a third rate political wanna be. Politico is REPORTING that Lewandowski just resigned from his own company, you know, the one he only founded something like 3 months ago?
But Lewandowski had not formally registered to lobby for the firm, even though he pitched prospective clients and boasted often about his access to the White House.
Bennett on Thursday suggested Lewandowski’s reputation and questions about his adherence to lobbying disclosure requirements might have hurt the firm.
“He’s such a huge target in town, and to own a chunk of a lobbying shop and not do any lobbying — it’s just always going to create questions,” Bennett said. “Everything the firm did was him and why he didn’t register.”
Notice how Barry Bennett is making the announcement, not falling on his sword like Corey and pulling up stakes? Bennett knew how to keep his mouth shut. I’ll tell you what else might have hurt the firm Barry, the revelation that Lewandowski had already come through on his promise at least once, helping to engineer a private meeting at Mar-A-Lago between Trump and a Mexican mogul who had let’s just say “philosophical differences” with Senor Trump.
This thing just keeps getting better. Corey told Bloomberg News one of the reasons that he was leaving was that Bennett and others at the firm were using his name without his permission;
That was apparently in reference to a newer company created by Avenue Strategies that POLITICO reported was circulating materials to prospective clients in Eastern Europe offering meetings with Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
On Wednesday, Lewandowski said in a statement to POLITICO that he had “no affiliation or involvement” with the newer firm, Washington East West Political Strategies.
Bennett said Avenue Strategies "owned the equity — and that is me and Corey — but he didn’t have any role.” Bennett said Avenue Strategies was dissolving Washington East West Political Strategies but was retaining similar firms seeking business in Central America, the Middle East and Canada.
OK, so Bennett admitted that as a partner, Lewandowski was therefore a part of this new offshoot, but that he had no actual role in it? Then who was supposed to peddle the influence, Bennett? It was Lewandowski’s name, former position and boasts that were the draw here, no wonder they didn’t have any clients. And notice how they’re already shuttering the thing down, after less than 3 months?
Corey has reportedly gone back to New Hampshire to try and suss out what to do next. My advice would be to crawl under the biggest rock you can find, and stay there for about 10 years. Just like Gerald Ford, who decided that he really was Presidential material even though not one American had voted for him to take that job, Lewandowski is another perfect example of someone in well over their head that decides they’re a player after all. Good riddance Corey, and don’t bother to write.
