Planting Tomatoes
Today was a perfect gardening day so I decided to complete the tomato planting. I planted six yesterday so that left six to go. Because of downsizing I planted only twelve, versus 36 to 48 as in previous years. Here’s yesterday’s production, with the remaining holes dug.
I make all our own compost from the greenery on our place, piled up for a year. I sift it, and it makes some of the very finest compost. One wheelbarrow full was enough for six plants.
I use large tomato cages which will support the plant through the summer.
Add water to get them started. This year I planted old reliable Early Girl and the large, tasty Ace.
How doth your garden grow? I’m still sorta wondering why I’m doing this considering our coming move. I guess It’s still too unreal.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
