Yes, certainly, I understand (and agree with!) the site rule against CALL OUT diaries. So I ask you to understand that the inclusion of Yasuragi’s name in tonight’s diary title is in no way a call out. Instead, it is a shout out! A gesture of deep respect, regard and appreciation. Because that is what I feel.

I don't know what John M Webb originally intended to write about in last night's Top Comments diary, but circumstances conspired to mandate the diary he published. He wrote about Denise Oliver Velez's stunning diary on racism and white allies. If you have not read it, please make a point to do that!
What happened was, Yasuragi mined Denise’s diary for as rich a vein of comment gold as I have ever seen on Daily Kos. 18 comments submitted!!! WOW!
So, guests to Top Comments last night were treated to the richest, highest quality and largest selection of comments that I can recall seeing since the first year of Top Comment's existence, all from a fine person who (until today, when I am declaring Yasuragi to be an honorary Top Comments team member, proudly so!) never had any formal affiliation with our group.
Of the active Top Comments diarists, I have been here the longest, so I have become the de facto team historian, I suppose.
Many times I have written diaries soliciting comment submissions from the Daily Kos community. Many times I have tried to explain the validating and reinforcing aspect of submitting comments, not least, because of its potential to encourage comment participation, to reward high quality writing in the comment threads, because of how such writing complements and broadens the experience of the diary, itself. But never have I seen anyone contribute comments like Yasuragi did.
Denise wrote a stunning diary, no mistake, stimulating to the max, provocative in all the best ways. It became home for so many of these great and substantive comments, both venue and inspiration for their composition. The diary was a gift from Denise. But ask her if it did not reward her, in turn, with comments like Yasuragi shared with all of us. From the replies she made to the commenters Yasuragi submitted, I think the answer must be a clear yes.
Though Denise diaries always appear in my activity 'stream,' like most, I suppose, I am not always able to read everything deposited there. Without Yasuragi's rich feed, I may have missed that diary AND its brilliant threads!
So I am just one of the ones to whom Yasuragi gave this gift.
I hope that both Denise AND Yasuragi can come tonight and elaborate a little more on that experience. Submitting comments, I have long contended, is different from reading, rec’ing and replying. SHARING special comments is a different commitment, a different focus. Examining comments with a view to sharing them is just different. For those of us in the Top Comments community, TC would not exist without that sharing. But it exists because we LOVE fine writing! Brilliant minds, spectacular, caring hearts! That is what community is about on Daily Kos. For many of us, it is what being a Democrat is about.
Thank you, Denise Oliver Velez, for your remarkable diary!
Thank you, Yasuragi, for the incredible sharing, last night, and for the seeds you always plant.
On to tonight’s comments! Formatted by brillig!
TOP COMMENTS
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments?
