As I watched Sally Yates testify yesterday that she made the White House fully aware that General Flynn was compromised by the Russians, I was immediately struck by her seemingly preposterous assumption that VP Pence and the White House generally were the innocent victims of Flynn lying to them -- over and over, Yates testimony assumed the absolute lack of any knowledge of Flynn's baggage by his higher ups and never did it entertain the slightest accusation of wrongful conduct by anyone other than Flynn.
Then, I realized ... she was twisting the vice - viciously and expertly twisting the vice. Especially to Flynn, but really to every canary that needs to sing, Yates was saying "this is what your trial is going to look like if it were held today, you rot in jail and everyone else goes home to dinner." I'm sure Flynn and other potential fall guys are left wondering should I gamble that the FBI already has enough information to hang my superiors (and my best bet is to clam up and fight) or am I about to be thrown under the bus because they've only got the goods on me (and the best bet is to talk talk talk). Well played, Ms. Yates.
