So, as I mentioned last week, I have a new car. On Friday, we got the notification that the plates had come in, so my husband took the car to the dealer and picked up the plates. In NJ currently, standard plates have a format of Letter-Number-Number-Letter-Letter-Letter, with an icon of the state in the middle so there are three on either side. Well, the last three letters of my new plates are HUH. My husband joked that we should get a ? bumper sticker and put it right after the plates.
This got me thinking about funny/creative license plates I’ve seen. One that I remember seeing on a car at college was “IOU1DAD” . And as I was searching for other fun license plates (“IM LOST”, “L8R BRA”, “IDSRVIT”), I was reminded of a game show where the premise was deciphering license plates. A few seconds on Google, and it informed me the show I was remembering was called “Bumper Stumpers” and ran for 3 seasons, from 1987-1990. It had clues such as “A license plate for Luke Skywalker” — “44BWTHU” (“Force Be With You”) or “License plate for an indecisive driver — “4KNDROD” (“Fork in the Road”). Just for fun, here’s a YouTube clip of the show (starts with the bonus round from the end of a previous game and then jumps to a new game):
So, have any funny license plates to share? Or distant memories of short lived game shows?
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
As always, this is an open thread and nothing is off topic. What do you want to kibitz about tonight?
