Looks like Senate Dems are standing up — and slowing down all Senate proceedings — as the Comey firing continues to unravel for the White House.
As TalkingPointsMemo (TPM) reports:
… while they’re in the minority in the Senate as well as the House, Democrats decided to flex their muscle with a series of procedural moves to grind the upper chamber’s work to a halt—canceling or delaying all committee meetings for the rest of the day.
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) said the aim of the tactic was to force lawmakers from both parties to come together for an emergency meeting on the future of the FBI’s probe into whether Trump campaign officials colluded with Russian officials.
“We need to fight for the integrity of our system of government,” [Merkley] told TPM.
Makes you hopeful that we will continue to see more backbone, as Democrats recognize that the old rules of “working together across the aisle” will not work for the weak and dangerous GOP contingent in the Senate.
