The national news this week has been downright scary. And Keith Olbermann has stopped yelling again, which is nervewracking since he only does that when he is truly worried.
I was a newlywed during the Watergate scandal. I was really hoping my children wouldn’t have to live through anything similar. And this, I believe, is worse.
I do wonder if my mother felt the same about the McCarthy hearings.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

The office my daughter works in has instituted a Friday out-for-drinks-and-dinner about once a month. She has to go, even on the rare occasions that she doesn’t want to — she’s one of the bosses now. On Friday, they were scheduled to go to Rock Bottom, so I babysat.
Let me put it this way about Rock Bottom: quite apart from the nerve it takes for a Colorado-based brewing company to open a branch in Portland, Oregon, which I do admire, the beer is good and the food is better. She brought me home a half-size growler of porter. I would have slightly preferred their stout, but apparently the alcohol content is too high — don’t ask me for what (to sell for outside consumption?), since she didn’t tell me, she just called to ask me if something else would work (and I don’t know why since I had already told her that either stout or porter would be fine).
I had a late dinner with about half the beer, and I finished the rest with Saturday lunch.

Mothers Day celebration from Popeye’s Chicken. I didn’t want to try to go out, and apparently neither did my daughter, and we all like Popeye’s.
I need to call Mom. For once, Fred Meyer didn’t have a suitable card — which is a first, believe me.

I plan to continue applying for work until all my retirement money starts coming in. I’m not sure how long that will take — but I believe I should have everything incoming by August 1. I’m more willing to go for part-time now. We’ll see how it works out.

For a change, the weather. We had two hot days about a week and a half ago, two mild and sunny this past week, and for the rest, rain. Saturday was fun. Thunder, lightening, and rain coming down in bucketloads for a couple of hours. Cold for the time of year, and soaking rain the rest of the time. Whoopee. Hail, too — though I didn’t realize till I looked outside to see if the offspring were finally home — it had sounded just like the hard rain that came with the thunderstorm.
