The legendary journalist Dan Rather has covered scandal after scandal including the infamous Watergate scandal and Nixon’s subsequent resignation. Rather has covered wars, current events and written a plethora of intriguing stories. One could say at 85 years old, this renown newsman has “seen it all.”
On Tuesday, Rather penned a commentary saying future generations may come may come to see the day Donald Trump fired an FBI director who was investigating him—as one of the darkest days in American history. Days later, Rather said in his 4,500 weeks on earth, he’s never seen a week like the one this country has just experienced. That’s a pretty strong statement. And continuing his commentary on Sunday, Rather wrote a short essay that is blatant and straight to the point about Trump’s continuous scapegoating, his choice of communication platforms, and his general ignorance.
Here is Rather’s Facebook Post.
A sign of a failing leader is he who blames subordinates for problems of his own making.
There is a lot of speculation today about a major shakeup in the communications team in the Trump White House. Say what you want about Sean Spicer, and there is plenty to say about him that might be better left to Melissa McCarthy, but the disastrous press President Trump is getting comes from the top. Maybe instead of re-arranging his spokespeople he would do better just to shut down his Twitter account and to speak with a bit more knowledge and coherence in his interviews.
But you get the sense it would just be easier for him to look for scapegoats.
If more of the mainstream media would have been as direct about Trump as Dan Rather has been during this past year and a half, we might not be having to experience one of the most corrupt presidents, administrations and Republican congressional leaderships in American history.
