The New York Times has just revealed the source of the classified intelligence Trump revealed to the Russians.
In a breaking story, “Israel Was Source of Secret Intelligence That Trump Gave to Russians, Officials Say” the New York Times cites not one but two sources: “a current and a former American official familiar with how the United States obtained the information.”
”The officials, who were not authorized to discuss the matter and spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Israel previously had urged the United States to be careful about the handling of the intelligence that Mr. Trump discussed.”
(This isn’t much of a diary, more of an alert that the plot is now in the process of thickening.)
And just for irony’s sake, here’s a tweet from December 28, 2016:
UPDATE: This quote from Thomas Wright, director of the Brookings Institution's Center on the United States and Europe, sums up the situation we now find ourselves in:
“This will make others think very hard about the risk of intelligence-sharing with the U.S. More broadly what it underscores for everyone both here and overseas is that there's a systemic risk with President Trump that he is a unique individual in basically every way and that he brings with him a higher than normal level of risk that others will have to take account of and manage. It's the new reality for everyone."
We have a “systemic risk” in the White House. And the entire world knows that now.
FINAL UPDATE: “Breaking” removed from diary title since over an hour has passed since the story broke. There are now at least four diaries breaking this news with the one by Joan McCarter containing the most substance and now on the Front Page section.
