We’re going to have a Republican President for the next three and a half years. There’s no way to undo the 2016 election, and Republicans control both Houses of Congress. That means that Trump, or Vice President Pence, or Speaker Ryan, or Senate President pro tempore Hatch, is going to be President.
Would you rather have a Republican in the White House who is an incompetent, ignorant buffoon and an embarrassment to his Party? Or someone more capable of advancing the Republican agenda?
When 2020 finally arrives, do we want to see the Republican candidate, whoever he or she may be, saddled with a huge lead albatross around his or her neck bearing the name of Donald J. Trump? Or do we want to see a proud President Pence or Ryan boasting about all his accomplishments, like gutting Medicaid, privatizing Social Security, and balancing the budget on the back of the American worker?
The answer is obvious; the longer Trump stays in the White House, the more embarrassing he will be to his Party. Why would any Democrat prefer to run against Pence or Ryan instead of Trump? When you’re in a war, wouldn’t you rather face an enemy commanded by a clown princeling with the temperament of a spoiled child instead of, say, Heinz Guderian?
If you’re at bat in the bottom of the ninth, wouldn’t you rather Bozo the Clown be on the mound than Nolan Ryan?
Trump is an idiot. He can’t get anything done. That’s exactly the sort of Republican we should want in the White House, if we have to have one there.
I was amused yesterday to see that the talk radio blowhards are still solidly behind Trump. If anyone can make those people look foolish in the eyes (ears?) of their loyal listeners, it will be Donald J. Trump. They stand to lose so much face over the next three and a half years that nobody will ever be able to take them seriously.
The starship USS Republican has been taken over by Lieutenant Reilly (“I’ll ta-a-a-a-a-ke you home again, Kathle-e-e-e-e-e-n!”), and is rapidly spiraling out of orbit; why should we replace him with someone who might be able to channel the impulse engines into a controlled implosion?
Donald Trump’s Presidency may be the best thing that’s happened to the Democratic Party in decades. Let’s not spoil it.
