Karen Handel has released a digital ad pushing back against Jon Ossoff’s ad calling her attacks on Planned Parenthood “unforgivable.” It is … weak. So weak.
Ossoff’s ad featured an OB/GYN saying that “I don’t usually get involved in politics, but as a doctor and a breast cancer survivor myself, what Karen Handel did is unforgivable,” because “Part of a normal exam is screening for breast and cervical cancer. When we catch it early, we save lives.”
So how does Handel counter that? With a friend of hers saying basically “I have cancer and Karen Handel is one of my best friends, so there!”
What Anne Lewis literally says in the ad is “Karen is one of the strongest advocates for women’s health I know. She stands up for us and she stands by us when we need her most. I know because she’s one of my best friends.” She has nothing to say for the camera about how exactly Handel advocates for the health of women who aren’t her friends and aren’t “well-known Republican attorneys and activists” like Lewis. Personal friendship does not get care for low-income women, which is exactly what Handel cut funding for at the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Personal friendship does not provide affordable health coverage, which Handel would cut for tens of millions of people thanks to her support for Trumpcare.
Potential voters in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District should have lots of chances to hear about this and Handel’s other positions before the June 20 special election. In addition to Ossoff’s “Unforgivable” ad, which clearly worries Handel’s campaign, many voters will get in-person outreach, as the Democratic National Committee is sending in 10 field organizers, who Jennifer Bendery reports “will target roughly 78,000 African-American, Asian and Latino voters who are registered to vote but didn’t cast ballots in April.” The House Majority PAC is also putting $200,000 into GOTV efforts as well as $500,000 into television advertising.
Can you chip in $3 to help Jon Ossoff get out the word about Karen Handel's attacks on Planned Parenthood and get out the vote on June 20?
