My first SSA payment arrived last Wednesday — according to the letter I got, I will be receiving them on the third Wednesday of each month, which means that I could have a deposit go in on any day from the 15th to the 21st. June will be on the 21st.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

June 21st is also the day my colonoscopy is scheduled. The letter that I got about it said I had to have someone with me, waiting around the whole time; and if that didn’t happen, my procedure would be canceled. What I was told on the phone was that I had to have somebody available to pick me up and take me home afterward.
What I have is my daughter’s ex who could drop me off (I could probably get there on my own, but considering what I recall of my first colonoscopy, I don’t want to spend that much time on the bus), and winglion, who is certainly willing to pick me up after. I was griping about the letter to my daughter and she is going to see if she can get that morning off work. If not, I am going to go for a mammogram one day next week (they can take walk-ins for those) and then go raise holy hell about them expecting everybody to have people who can rearrange their lives for the clinic’s convenience — do they really think that that many people will sue over being allowed to assume their friends and family actually have lives?
Growl.

I applied for five jobs again this past week. Only four of them were full-time, unlike Thanksgiving week when the five that were posted by the Tuesday were all full-time. I plan to continue applying for work till my financial situation settles out and then look around and see what I actually want to do.
Things will be settled in time for me to attend NN17 with no worries. That much I am absolutely certain of.

The offspring and I had breakfast at Sanborn’s on Saturday. Neither of the grandkids finished their orders. I’m not sure why for my grandson, but my granddaughter stopped bellyaching about her bellyache when my daughter asked her if her belly hurt because she’d eaten too much, eaten too fast, or not chewed well enough and she pleaded guilty. Her brother asked guilty of what and both my daughter and I said “All three”. She pretty much demolished her six pancakes, but she ordered bacon as well and her mother and I finished most of that.
Sanborn’s is doing Darth Vader waffles now as well as Mickey Mouse for the kiddies. That’s what my grandson ordered, and they do make a bit of a production of delivering them.
It’s a bit late in the year for rhubarb, but they did have it, so I had their rhubarb German pancake. Not only is it well up on top of my list of favorites there, I’m the one who originally gave them the idea for it.

My firstborn and I would both like to go to Ye Olde King’s Head in Santa Monica again. The first time I ate there, it was after her father and I saw a review of the place in the Los Angeles Times that said they billed themselves as an authentic British pub but that wasn’t true — the food was far too good. My daughter was 8 months old at the time and the only place there was room to put her when we got seated was underneath the Christmas tree. The waiter thought the situation was funny, too — a couple of Jehovah’s witnesses right next to the Christmas tree. At the time, the place was one room, now it takes up the whole block.
The reviewer was right — they make the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life and I can’t remember the last time I ordered that because I like their shepherd’s pie so much better. And their Scotch eggs go almost as well with beer as samosas do (and my considered opinion has long been that samosas are the best things ever invented to eat while drinking beer — though my preference is vegetable rather than meat when it comes to samosas).
