I keep seeing the word "stunning" to describe the rise of Democrats in upcoming special elections. What's really "stunning" is that these elections are close at all, now that the Republican agenda is fully exposed. People who felt "left behind" and voted Republican in November won't even be able to get out of the starting gate. Hungry children, the poor, the elderly, and our health must step aside in favor of over-securing our borders, the most massive military spending increases in history and even more tax breaks for the rich through the health care “adjustments”? What's even more "stunning" is that so many among those who keep voting these people into office claim to be Christian. Have they forgotten Jesus' "least of these" mandate? There was certainly no "mandate" that completed the Republican plan to control the federal government last November, and it's money thrown into elections that keeps them there (money that all candidates now deem necessary) that requires more money piled on and piled on again (not to mention a "little" gerrymandering). There's no balance to this -- anywhere.
Republicans have controlled legislation in Congress for the last six years and in most of the states for longer than that. Since 2010, especially, they blocked a lot of federal legislation that would have helped people, and they are still funneling money away from those who need it the most to those who need it the least. We know this now. Why in the world are these elections even close? Those policies are not what what made America great. These people simply cannot be elected again. Do your duty to our country and vote them out. Think before you vote. Think of Lincoln's philosophy: "government of the people, for the people and by the people," and don't let ideology cripple you. Do NOT stay home!
We've lost our way, folks. We need a complete re-direction. All this money spent on elections, and we still have hungry children who need better education and better care (since the parents of many of them have to work two jobs each at $7.25/hour or less), and there is the growing segment of elderly needing care, the poor still needing housing and jobs, our infrastructure deteriorating...and on and on. Where are all those jobs tax breaks for the wealthy job creators were supposed to have put on the table over the past several decades? The world economy has changed, and we must change with it, but there is enough money to accomplish anything this country decides to do, provided everyone puts their patriot hat in the ring. No excuses allowed.
