In his April 29th phone call with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Trump told him, in reference to North Korea.
”We have a lot of firepower over there. We have two submarines — the best in the world — we have two nuclear submarines — not that we want to use them at all.”
The transcript of the call can be found here. The leak is at the bottom of page 2. Also covered in the New York Times, here. The Washington Post also covered the call.
So now Trump is blabbing the disposition of our nuclear forces. Does this idiot even have the slightest concept of what “classified” information is? Seriously, if any other person were to be leaking important secrets like this, he’d be cooling his heels in Leavenworth. At some point Congress needs to address the idea that the President can declassify anything he likes at any time he wants. Another relic of an age when the President wasn’t a puerile nut job incapable of even the most basic forms of political communication or self control.
This means our military leaders need to decide what to do with our subs. Move them? Add more? Do nothing? Do something but neglect to tell Trump about it for fear he’ll just blab the information to someone else the moment he gets his tiny, tiny hands on it?
Not only are our allies quite justifiably afraid to keep the US in the loop about international events, now our own military knows our “president” cannot be trusted with secret information and quite obviously cares nothing for the safety and survival of our troops in the field — or, more likely, is too feckless to know that blabbing such information would put our sailors at risk.
When everyone from the military and Congress on down to the local dog catcher knows the President is dangerously, blitheringly incompetent, who’s actually running the country? With Trump being a well-known, unstable crazy person, who actually gets to make the important calls? Sure, it’s all fun and games when all you’re doing is stealing money, food, and healthcare from the poor, the sick, the elderly, and defenseless children. But when push comes to shove — and it will — and the nation is genuinely at risk from outside threats, will Congress actually allow Trump to run things?
And how much does that idea scare the living crap out of you?

Thank for the rec list, folks!
