Under investigation? Fire the investigator. It’s a time-honored tactic of presidents … who are about to leave. But there’s another tactic that the Trump regime uses to deal with legal and ethical problems that’s being used with more regularity—just ignore everything.
Senate Democrats are accusing the White House of purposely ignoring requests for information on issues ranging from the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in U.S. elections, to ethics waivers given to top officials and changes in environmental rules.
It’s not just the White House that’s letting requests molder in the “In” basket, it’s agencies. The silence across the spectrum has Democrats convinced that the Trump regime isn’t only sadly inefficient, it’s also purposely obtuse.
Democratic senators are accusing the administration of instructing federal agencies to “refuse requests for information from Democratic members of Congress,” according to a letter being sent to the White House on Wednesday and obtained by The Washington Post.
So long as Republicans are convinced that what Trump is cooking up at the agencies feeds their anti-regulatory, anti-environment, anti-worker stance, they may not mind living like mushrooms. But Democrats would like to know what the hell is going on. The Washington Post sent out a request for comments. Can you guess how that turned out?
White House and other administration officials did not return requests for comment on Tuesday ahead of the letter’s release.
