France 24’s English-language channel reports:
“Thousands of protesters carrying effigies of Donald Trump [and Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel] marched through Brussels on Wednesday after the US president arrived for talks with the EU and NATO.
"Trump not welcome" said banners waved by the crowd, which police said numbered around 9,000. Organizers put the size of the demonstration at 12,000.”
While Trump was posing for photographs with King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at the Royal Palace, and meeting with Prime Minister Michel, demonstrators moved through the streets a kilometer away heading toward the city center. Many carried signs protesting sexism and racism. Some recalled how Trump referred to Brussels as a "hellhole" ruined by Muslim immigration two months after suicide bombers killed 32 people in the city.
A Summit for the NATO Heads of State is scheduled for Thursday May 25.
