On one side are activists who argue the inclusion of the brown and black stripes are needed to reflect ….
….to represent people of color who are ”marginalized, ignored, and even intentionally excluded,”
On the other side, which includes a friend of the recently deceased designer of the pride flag:
“The stripes were not chosen for skin color — they were chosen to reflect the spectrum of color in nature.”
In case you do not know of the history of the pride flag: The original flag had eight colors that represented sex, life, healing, sunlight, nature, art, harmony and spirit. Eventually pink and turquoise were eliminated.
Columnist Dan Savage has made his voice heard on the controversy by stating:
“We’ve added stars to the country’s flag. Don’t see why we can’t add bars to the pride flag.”
I understand both sides and I’ve not yet made up my mind on the issue. I offer the story to make people aware of the controversy and get your thoughts.
