Last night, the Cincinnati Reds honored Scooter Gennette for his four home run game on June 6, the rarest feat in baseball. His third grade teacher attended the game last night and gave him a baseball he had signed and given to her, telling her he would be famous some day. She kept that baseball for about twenty years before last night. She could have discarded it. He was not a famous baseball star, nor even in the regular starting lineup for the Reds this year. Don’t tell me teachers are the cause of all the ills with our education system. She is but one example of the caring nature of teachers. I’m sure she isn’t the only one who follows their students, hoping the time they shared in the classroom would contribute in some way to success and happiness in the student’s journey through life. If only some politicians would follow her lead, this country would be better off.
