The abrupt departure of Scott Pelley from the CBS Evening News cannot be overlooked as another egregious attack on a free press in America. Scott Pelley was the only news anchor I know of to openly, and early on, ask the question:: "Would it be safe to say that President Trump appears to be out of touch with reality?" and: "What effect might this have on the U.S. and its global standing?" He has carefully watched the shit show that has been going on in Washington since the day Trump took office--and he has reported on it. It has been indicated that as a result, he has butted heads with right wing higher-ups at the network. I would be willing to bet that his replacement will be a namby pamby mouthpiece for the right; and if that happens, Americans need to stand up and make clear they will not tolerate it.
Since the networks are first and foremost companies that are interested in their bottom lines, I will no longer be watching the CBS Evening News. It is a small thing perhaps, but it is the only thing I can think of as a form of protest against the attacks on freedom of the press, free speech, and our very democracy.
