So a week ago Saturday I went out to the truck to go to the store. It would not start, it turned over but wouldn't start.
So I drove Steve's (boss) truck. The next morning Steve was outside, (also landlord) & I asked him to start it. I wanted to spray brake clean to see if it was the fuel pump, but it started up.
Monday morning it started up! Tuesday It started ! After work I went to Lowes & stopped at a store & it wouldn't start again. I had the brake clean in the truck so I sprayed it, it ran enough to move it out of the way ! I called Steve to see if I could get someone to pick me up. He wasn't far away & stopped & got me. I was going to go get it right away but things happened & it was the next day before I got it on a trailer with the help of the supper market guys !
So It was Friday before I was ready to lower the tank & change the fuel pump. I got help pushing it into the shop & raised it up on the lift.
It had rained both days it sat in the parking lot !
So the bed had water in it ! about 10 gallons worth !
I wasn't to happy about that !
So I got a mop & soaked up as much as possible !
I started figuring out how to remove the tank !
2 bolts hold it in. I rigged up a way to let it down on a 55 gallon drum.
Time went bye & I had it back together & tried starting it ! Nothing !
By this time I was really not a happy camper !
So I pushed it outside !
after I got my mess cleaned up I decided I would go get the trailer & take the truck at to rahmoc so Bob & Dick Rahilly could help me figure out WTF happened.
The next morning I tried starting it nothing ! It had no Fuel pressure !
So I removed the tank again.
I removed the pump & Found nothing !
So I started looking for fuses. nothing
several times I turned it over as I looked for a wiring or fuse problem.
I removed the fuel lines at some point.
I turned it over again while looking at voltage at the plug.
I hooked the plug up again because there was 5 volts. The fuel pump system drops the voltage after so many seconds as normal operation according to google.
well gas went every where next time I tested it !
so I connected the lines & it started !
I have no idea what solved the problem
But the truck is fine now
312,750 miles !
I bought it from Scott 14 years ago with 96,000 on it. It had no gas gauge ! so I drove it 217,000 miles & 30 some odd times running it out of gas !
Now the gas gauge even works !
Thinking back at the times I've run out ! One time on I-95 in South Carolina I felt it stumble as I approached an exit, I knew I needed gas ! Jumped over a lane & coasted into a station ! 14.6 gallons & back on the road ! LOL the worst was in Florida around St Augustine on I-95 at 3:00 am. I had to walk, a trooper picked me up & took me to a station & then back to my truck. I use to carry a 1 gallon can with gas, then I just started buy a gallon of water that I would pour out & get gas in it. Buy a water to use as a funnel & on I would go.
I just had to go as far as possible ! LOL
Yeah I'm laughing about the times I've had in my truck ! I just knew I could go farther ! I remember going 278 miles without running out & stopping to fill it ! yep 14.6 gallons !
