With Donald Trump already under investigation for obstruction of justice after only 153 days in office, and the Republican-controlled Congress showing no interest in holding him accountable for his reprehensible behavior, it’s clear that change will only happen if we make it happen. This is exactly why I am challenging Republican Representative Leonard Lance in the 7th Congressional District of New Jersey, one of the 23 GOP-leaning districts that Hillary Clinton won. The road to taking back the House runs through this district.
Congressman Lance, who votes with Trump 93% of the time, is an active enabler of Trump’s corrupt practices, divisive rhetoric, and destructive policies. To defeat him, we need a challenger who reflects our district and its socially and fiscally responsible values.
I am a community leader, a mother, and an executive who rose through the ranks in an industry at a time when there were few women in leadership so I know how to stand up for myself and for others. As the leader of American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in the district, I helped raise millions dollars, bringing people together for a cause bigger than our own – just like we’re doing now.
I will stand up for everything that Trump stands against - healthcare, public education, a woman’s right to choose, environmental protections, pay equity, criminal justice reform, LGBTQ rights, and an equitable and inclusive economy. I will also hold Trump accountable for his blatant disregard of ethics and the rule of law.
When I announced my candidacy on MSNBC with Joy Reid last month, I said that I would vote to impeach Trump if there is evidence that he has obstructed justice. Some have told me I should apologize or back down - but I will never apologize for doing what’s right.
In order to defeat Representative Leonard Lance and hold Trump accountable, I need your support. Through my husband, who used his education blog to challenge Chris Christie’s attacks on teachers and public schools, I’ve seen the power of online activists like you first-hand. What you've done for Jon Ossoff, Jim Thompson, Rob Quist, and Kathryn Allen has truly inspired new candidates like me to step up. Although Jon Ossoff did not win last night, against tremendous odds, he came close because of your efforts.
Lance knows he’s in the toughest fight of his career. While we have a rapidly growing following on the grassroots level, I need your help to fight back. I am asking that you help me to raise $5,000 through this site by the critical June 30th filing deadline. I know how to fight, I know how to win, but most importantly, I know how to serve.
I am here to answer any questions that you might have. I want this to be the start of a conversation with you on how I can do the best job possible to represent our values in Congress. I look forward to hearing what you have to say and to coming back here regularly in the weeks and months ahead.
