I think we can all agree that Donald J. Trump, self-absorbed cretin with the intellectual curiosity of a soggy dinner roll, neither gives a damn who gets hurt by which funding cuts nor would ever deign to visit any health clinic that he wasn't making personal coin off of.
Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, is challenging Trump to see for himself the devastation his funding cuts will bring to the millions of people her organization serves across the country.
In advance of Trump’s visit to Iowa Wednesday — where four health centers have been forced to close due to funding cuts passed by Republican lawmakers and signed by then-Gov. Terry Branstad — Richards encouraged Trump, in both a letter and a press call, to visit a health center, in order to see the work they do and to meet the people who rely on Planned Parenthood when they have nowhere else to turn.
The Republican healthcare bill, or at least the House version, bars Medicaid patients from getting treatment at Planned Parenthood clinics—part of the longstanding GOP war on the organization. Richards would like Trump to spend a few minutes of his angry orange life learning just what it is the clinics actually do and see what happens when those clinics are, as they were in Texas, summarily defunded and replaced with not a damn thing.
The odds Trump will take her up on this invitation? Zero. But perhaps Ivanka Trump, who is the official-ish White House voice for all the things decent people are supposed to care about, or at least that is what one hundred different press stories have claimed she is the advocate of, would like to visit in his stead. Perhaps she could put in a good word. Perhaps Planned Parenthood clinics can agree that from this day forward, they shall also sell and prominently display Ivanka designer handbags. The White House would change their tune right quick, if that were to happen.
