Wednesday, two Bill Cosby spokespeople—Ebonee Benson and Andrew Wyatt—shared some disturbing news about the predatory comedian’s intended summer plans: he’ll be holding town halls teaching young people how to avoid getting accused of rape. It happened during a sitdown on Wednesday’s episode of WBRC Fox’s Good Day Alabama, which is filmed in Birmingham, Alabama.
You can watch the entire video on WBRC, but here’s a partial transcription:
WYATT: Bill Cosby wants to get back to work. We are now planning a town halls and we’re going to be coming to this city sometime in July.
HOST: Just a town hall to talk with young people?
WYATT: To talk to young people. This is bigger than Bill Cosby. This issue could affect any young person. Especially young athletes of today. And they need to know what they’re facing when they’re hanging out and partying, when they’re doing certain things they shouldn’t be doing. And it also affects (laughs) married men.
HOST: Is it kind of a “Do as I say, not as I do.” situation?
WYATT: (laughing and nodding) Right.
BENSON: Laws are changing. The statute of limitations for victims of sexual assault are being extended. So this is why people need to be educated on a brush against the shoulder. Anything at this point can be considered sexual assault and it’s a good thing to be educated on the laws.
It’s astonishing to me that anyone can say those things and support the serial rapist with a straight face. Maybe that’s why they don’t realize it sounds like Cosby’s town hall will just be a primer for sexual predators who want to improve on getting away with abusing others. In light of Cosby’s recently mistrial for sexual assault, he does seem to be the right man for the job.
