GQ.com, 6/26/2017 — The Amazing New Trump Defense
“Collusion? So what if he colluded with Russia, there’s no law against it"
Keith explores Trump’s willingness to “turn on a dime” once the facts are in evidence, and then act as if: “Oh yeah, that’s what I believed all along”.
As when Trump recently went from constantly calling Russia-hacking of Elections “a Hoax” — to issuing 4 Tweets in a week about how:
“Of course — Russia has ‘meddled’ in the Election — But why didn’t Barack Obama do something about it?”
The ability to turn on a dime, to contradict himself utterly and completely — and act as if he has always believe, that which he denied an hour ago — is one of Trump’s few genuine skills:
“Russia? I had nothing to do with Russia … Oh THAT Russia!
Of course we did that with Russia. So what, it’s not illegal.”
That will be their new “Dooms-Day” defense when the smoking-tape(s) of collusion ultimately comes to light:
“Well, there’s no law against it.”
Sean Hannity admitted as much on his radio show recently — what the new Trump “rabbit hole” defense will be (from mediamatters.org):
SEAN HANNITY (HOST): I never understood it anyway. What was the collusion? That maybe somebody in the Trump campaign talked to somebody in Russia because Russia supposedly had the information that Hillary Clinton had destroyed on her server when she committed a felony and tried to cover up her crimes? And that they might say as a Trump campaign representative, "wow you have that? Tell the American people the truth. Let them see it themselves, release it." Is that a crime, to say "release it"? To show the truth? To show damaging information?
Ah yes Sean, colluding with Russia to commit Espionage — is indeed a Crime.
They quit handing medals out for that one, quite a while ago.
