Is there a book that you’ve read over and over? I have two….
First is Joseph Heller’s Catch 22. I first read it in high school and then have read it every few years ever since. Each time i read it I catch something that I missed the first time.
One of my favorite quotes, that I use in real life, comes from this book:
“Justice?" The Colonel was astounded. "What is justice?"
"Justice, sir –"
"That's not what justice is," the colonel jeered, and began pounding the table again with his big fat hand. "That's what Karl Marx is. I'll tell you what justice is. Justice is a knee in the gut from the floor on the chin at night sneaky with a knife brought up down on the magazine of a battleship sandbagged underhanded in the dark without a word of warning. Garroting. That's what justice is when we've all got to be tough…(8.187-189)
The second book I love so much. I first read it and I was in awe. Even though it is a huge book I cannot count how many times that I’ve read it. And just like Catch-22 I love and use so many quotes from it.
“That wasn't any act of God. That was an act of pure human fuckery.”
"M-O-O-N, that spells 'my main man'."
"Laws, yes!"
“He smiles a lot. But I think there might be worms inside him making him smile.”
So… what book (s) have you read again and again?
