This will be a relatively short and simple diary, as I’ve been extra busy at work with end of quarter deadlines. I’ve noticed twice now in recent days that certain things from my childhood have become stuck in my head. For example, the grocery store had packs of Klondike bars on sale, and since they had mint chocolate chip, I bought a pack. Yet when I bought them, and every time I see them in my freezer since, my brain immediately coughs up the “What would you dooooo for a Klondike bar?” jingle. You know the one:
And then, just this morning, I heard a snippet of Beethoven’s Fifth. And my weird, weird brain decided to recall for me the old answering machine tapes that would be ‘cutesy’ outgoing messages for you. One was Beethoven’s Fifth, with the words “Nobody’s Home. Nobody’s Home” to the music. And my brain helpfully sang that along at the appropriate parts of Beethoven’s Fifth that I heard this morning. Here’s the commercial for that, in case you don’t remember what I’m talking about:
So, those are things that are apparently sticky in my brain. I’d say good job, marketers! except for the fact that I’ll probably never buy Klondikes again, just so my brain doesn’t have the chance to play that jingle at me. What about you? Any jingles or similar oddball things that got stuck in your brain?
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
As always, this is an open thread and nothing is off topic. What do you want to kibitz about tonight?
