Welcome again to Saturday Morning Home Repair blogging, where we talk about fixing houses and the things in them that are supposed to work for us. An ad hoc cadre of building professionals and gifted amateurs attempt to answer questions that arise from readers, and offer encouragement and advice for those inclined to do things for themselves, if they can. We all do a lot of things, collectively, and can probably help out with insights from our vast experience. Or sometimes, we just gab.
A little late, but I saw that nobody had posted.
Here's the thing. I'm not doing home repairs this week because I’m currently homeless and couch surfing. I had a fire and my city tagged my house as unfit for human habitation.
Don't worry about me, though. My insurance has so far has treated me right. I could even be in a suite-type hotel rather than camping in my brother's family room. I just chose to stay with family.
Meanwhile, I’m at the beginning of a massive renovation project. This week was dedicated to emptying everything I own out of my house. It's all packed and they're taking it to storage Wednesday. Then all the carpets and flooring come out.
The fire damage was in one room, but there is smoke damage everywhere.
In coming weeks, I’ll be chronicalling a full-house renovation.
Once again, don't worry about me. The dogs and I got out unscathed, thank goodness. I would tell the tale, but I’m typing on my tablet, and that's a pain.
SSo, what's going on in your world?
