Rep. Mo Brooks, currently in the running to fill the Alabama Senate seat once filled by America’s most racist Keebler elf-turned-U.S. attorney general, is in a bit of pickle. See, during the Republican primary, Brooks not only endorsed Ted Cruz, but correctly referred to Donald Trump as a “serial adulterer.” Unfortunately for Brooks, it’s something that is coming back to haunt him now that Trump is so far refusing to endorse a candidate in the race, one of the few places his support actually may help.
It’s probably a main reason why Brooks is suddenly such a big fan of Trump’s anti-immigrant policies, particularly that f*cking border wall along the entirety of the U.S./Mexico border. Despite the fact that Mexico was supposed to pay for it or something, a new ad from Brooks’ campaign features him threatening to filibuster the Senate should he make it there—including reading passages from the Bible on the Senate floor—unless his colleagues fund it:
“Elect me to the Senate, and I’ll fight every spending bill that doesn’t fund that wall. And if I have to filibuster on the Senate floor, I’ll even read the King James Bible until the wall is funded. And you know what? Washington could benefit from that. We’re going to build that wall, or you’ll know the name of every Republican who surrenders to the Democrats to break my filibuster. I give you my word, and I don’t give my word lightly.
A government standstill in order to make you pay for a $70 billion monument to Donald Trump’s racism: Just like Jesus would do.
Unfortunately for Brooks, the wall ain’t happening. You gotta wonder, though, what scripture Brooks wants to use in defense of the wall. Is it "You must not wrong a foreigner nor oppress him, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt”? Or maybe “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” And there’s always, “Cursed is the one who perverts justice for the resident foreigner, the orphan, and the widow.”
There’s plenty to choose from. Here’s hoping he never makes it far enough to use it.
