The president’s current position (nearly 24 hours old, so caveat emptor) on health care is that the Senate needs to get back to work and get him a repeal and replace bill pronto.
Hoping to bring pressure on GOP holdouts, the Club for Growth and the Tea Party Patriots have teamed up with a web site called “obamacarerepealtraitors.com,” naming and shaming the “traitorous Republicans” who dare betray (i.e. actually listen to) their constituents.
The TP Patriots/Club for Growth site is part and parcel of a right-wing effort to frame the fight to destroy health coverage for millions as a loyalty test to Himself’s presidency. Trump against the world, says the Washington Post.
Coupla problems here. First, “the world” is actually pretty big when your policy’s polling at 12-17%. Second, shouting, “You’ll never work in this town again!” at actors is a lot more effective if you’ve just produced a hit, instead of having just delivered one of the most famous flops ever. Third, when your “supporters” are radio hosts and lobbyists and your “critics” are actual voters calling senatoids and congresscritters at a 50-to-1 “NO” ratio, “traitor” web sites probably aren’t going to turn the battleship.
And lastly, a piece of personal advice: If the president you’re trying to rally folks around is under investigation for coordinating with the Russians to subvert American democracy, you might want to rethink the whole treason branding thing. Just sayin’.
