Welcome again to Saturday Morning Home Repair blogging, where we talk about fixing houses and the things in them that are supposed to work for us. An ad hoc cadre of building professionals and gifted amateurs attempt to answer questions that arise from readers, and offer encouragement and advice for those inclined to do things for themselves, if they can. We all do a lot of things, collectively, and can probably help out with insights from our vast experience. Or sometimes, we just gab.
This isn’t a home repair post !
It’s building a grind room in the building I work in.
Over Christmas I rearranged a few work areas ! To do that I had to take down the grind room.
I searched my pictures & found this old picture.
now there is another work station there. So the boss & foreman wanted me to build the grind room starting in Febuary, I was seriously thinking about quitting, But I would not be able to replace the job & benefits ! So the end of April I started a new room. I messed up & didn’t start taking pictures when I first got started. The first thing I had to do was move a post 3’. So you can tell in this picture what I did !
I was going to cover the walls with drywall, But the boss said Steel ! It was 3 weeks later before he said he meant steel siding you would put on the outside of the building ! I used sheets of 16 gauge metal .065 thick. I used 3/16 large head steel pop rivets to attach the metal. I also welded all the studs together so there was no screws in the way.
the studs are 3 ½ steel studs 16 gauge. so the walls are thin. the bosses way they would have ended up 8 ½ inches thick !
that opening on the floor is to get filters out !
This picture is of the ceiling & the outside completed.
So next was to spray the walls with foam to help absorb noise !
Then I put perforated steel to allow the absorption of noise on the inside.
So next up is painting ! I wanted the studs pained ! So I had to do that. I tried to paint the outside also. I was given Imron Paint ! Man is that stuff hard to brush & Roll. It is an industrial paint that the airline industry likes. it dries very fast & is really strong smelling !
primired
Cleaned & waxed the floors & painted
You can also see the lights are in & electric !
Base strips are in now installed 4” x 1/8 stainless ! 😄
add some equipment
2 airflow units which are big filters
had to get to the filters on the bench !
You can see the blue tubing in this picture. it’s the airlines that run thru out the building, real nice stuff, use a jig to drill a hole in the tubing & put a fitting around the tubing that clamps on & continue in another direction. takes just a few minutes !
this bench is used to work on the flange of the header, they beat, and grind on them.
switches for the airflow machines & a plug for the tig welder.
the airflow machines in place.
bracket for the rubber strips that will make the room enclosed
