I was taught long ago never to argue with a crazy person. Yet that is exactly what several op-eds suggest I do.
From establishment pieces in the NYT to the liberal Huffington Post to Bernie Sanders, I am told to reach out to Trump supporters by trying to find “common ground", focus on their "economic issues", or tell them we are fighting for their health care.
This is stupid, because they can always be counted on to vote against their self-interest. However, people have a hard time accepting this reality, and I could never find the right words to articulate why they do this.
