Amidst all of the other uproar last night over the Health Care Vote, the Boy Scouts speech etc. etc. this story on CNN seems important to me. Senate won't let Trump make recess appointments
“Senators are planning to continue procedural moves to prevent the Senate from formally adjourning for recess next month in order to prevent President Donald Trump from making recess appointments, when the chamber eventually adjourns through the Labor Day weekend.
Using the threat of a filibuster, Democrats plan to force the Senate to hold pro forma sessions — a practice both parties have carried out to block recess appointments from presidents of opposite party, Democratic and Republican aides say.”
The obvious danger is that Trump waits for the Senate August recess, then fires Sessions and uses a recess appointment to install a new AG who in turn fires Mueller. Of course there would be huge uproar, but he may figure that uproar is the better alternative to whatever it is that he’s terrified Mueller will find. It’s become screamingly obvious there is something out there that he’s terrified of having surface.
As things stand now is pretty clear that no new AG can be confirmed who will not state categorically that they will not fire Mueller. A recess appointment was the way around that. But now, maybe not so much.
And so the screws will continue to turn. Lets just hope this story is right.
