Josh Marshall over at Talking Points Memo is among those who noted that President Passion Fingers* rattled more than a few people while he was unilaterally tweeting out his ban on transgender people in the military this morning. While most of the uproar has been over what this means for the people it affects, the way Trump did it also raised concerns over at the Pentagon. As Marshall reports, the first tweet was pretty open-ended:
After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow......
There was a nine minute pause until the second tweet, during which interval people at the Pentagon and elsewhere were wondering if this was precursor to a strike on North Korea or some other military action.
Given that diplomats have learned that the first thing they need to do every day is see what Trump has tweeted, this probably had pulses racing around the world, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Marshall links to Buzzfeed which has the rest of the tweets and the report of the tensions the initial tweet raised, as well as the impact of the main focus of the tweets.
Remember those blithe souls who argued Trump would be okay as president, because there would be people around him who knew WTF they were doing? It doesn’t matter what they know if no one is riding herd on Trump. For all his blather to the Boy Scouts the other day about how great they are, he’s missing out the one thing their program is supposed to provide: adult supervision.
* Passion Fingers — because everything he touches, he F***s up.
