Famously cool-voiced singer Rod Stewart surprised a group of kids when he ponied up around $30,000 to cover the costs of their travel from Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Washington, D.C. These families are directly affected by the Obamacare repeal efforts, having children with disabilities that need insurance to cover their healthcare costs. And they were trying to raise money to go to our nation’s capital in the hopes of letting their voices be heard on the Republican attempts to repeal Obamacare and destroy Medicaid. According to CNN:
The story didn't have a happy ending. Despite their best efforts, the families did not meet with their elected officials or anyone from the Republican National Committee.
Stewart called his manager to help him find out how he could get in touch and help.
"He was so touched and heartbroken and actually teary," Arnold Stiefel, Stewart's manager for more than 30 years, told CNN. "He said to me 'As a father of eight I have to do something now.' "
They found the families and Stewart cut a check for the families to use.
In one of Stewart's most famous songs, "Forever Young," he sings: "May the good Lord be with you down every road you roam." He ended his concert Tuesday night at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, with a video tribute to the families who took the road trip.
So shines a good deed in a weary world.
