I am beyond thrilled that all of the GOP “repeal, replace, whatever” bills appear to be dead tonight. And I am grateful that Republican Senators Collins, McCain and Murkowski put the nails into these now dead bills.
But amidst the celebrations (and I am taking part), I think we’ve forgotten to thank our terrific Democratic Senators, who have not only stuck together but have fought in words and deeds to make tonight possible.
Our Democratic caucus has done us proud.
I am grateful to our Democratic Senators. Whatever the GOP did or wanted to do, their efforts were thwarted by our Democratic Senators. Thank you!
Sen. Chris Murphy is always willing to stay up all night to advocate for all of us.
Sen. Mazie Hirono showed up to vote, despite her cancer.
Sen. Bernie Sanders has said:
"There has not been one public hearing on a bill that impacts one-sixth of the American economy and every single American," Sanders said during an appearance on CNN.
"You have a process in which the bills being brought forth are opposed by the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, the AARP — every major healthcare organization in America — and they're trying to push this thing through."
The Hill
Sen. Ron Wyden gave an impassioned last-minute speech during the five minutes the GOP permitted.
These are only a few. Our caucus voted unanimously. Some of our Senators did so despite difficult challenges in 2018. Because, apparently, they serve the American people, and the people they represent.
Let’s say thank you by supporting them in 2018.
Thank you, Democrats!
