I got curious as to what was being said about McConnell’s failure to get last night’s bill passed. Aside from the fact he was distraught, I hadn’t heard much said.
Apparently, a tempest is brewing in Alabama, though, for the next election for the Senator to fill Jeff Sessions former seat. Three men are considered most favored. Luther Strange, currently appointed to the seat and backed by McConnell’s super pac. Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, and Rep. Mo Brooks, who seems to have nothing but contempt for Mr. McConnell.
At a recent meeting of the Heritage Foundation, Mr Brooks said of McConnell, “Absolutely, he is the head of the swamp in the United States Senate.” Well, there you go. Mr. Brooks thinks McConnell should be replaced as Majority Leader, but hasn’t decided who he thinks that should be.
Mr. Brooks sees himself as the most conservative of the candidates, and a supporter of Trumps campaign pledges, particularly the one to “drain the swamp.”
The primary is set for Aug 15. If no candidate wins over 50% of the vote, the runoff will be Sept 26.
I haven’t seen any one else mention replacing McConnell but, I’m sure Trump will start attacking him soon enough regarding the failure to repeal and replace the ACA.
This could be interesting to watch.
