Mountain Music Monday
Steve Earle and The Mountain, a haunting commentary on mining country in America…
My personal favorite in the Mountain category:
Not sure how they got the name “Mountain Men” for this trio of acappella tunesmiths, but this song, Play it Right, either makes you listen up or tune right out. I listened up.
My Weekend
Everything happened this weekend, compared to most of my weekends, that is.
I wrote this story which published on Sunday morning ATTN: Candidates & Democratic Party Chairs, DemocratsWorkForAmerica.org a SuperPAC for you!
How did I come to write that story? My friend from Montana, Veteran of Army Intelligence, Josh Manning (@joshuamanning23 on Twitter) made an introduction to some folks he met through his activism in the Common Defense PAC organization. Sudha (Su) Mahon and Rachel Murphy Azzara, two of the founding members of a brand new SuperPAC of the 527 type at DemocratsWorkForAmerica.org This is their new graphic:
What this group just did is create a SuperPAC for the grassroots of the Left. They’ll be able to raise unlimited, anonymous money in that 527, and use it for the good of the Base, by funding Voter registration and GOTV efforts, and knock-and-walk drives and a million other ways that grassroots organizations already in place could use instead of spending most of their time fundraising.
Because that is what a 527 is for — to separate really, really wealthy individuals from very, very large sums of cash to use as foundation capital, so that they can use the interest to fund activities.
And they picked me to help them launch onto social media. Wowza.
My original Tweet of the story has 125 RTs (retweets) and 136 Likes as of now, and Twitter analytics tells me that it was seen by over 18,000 people with all of the associated shares. But that’s just for those who shared my Tweet of the story. The story made the Most Shared list here on Daily Kos yesterday, too and the highest numbers I saw before it scrolled off that list were 36 shares on Facebook and iirc over a 150 Twitter shares. So perhaps as many as 100,000 people all saw something about the group yesterday. Not bad for a launch of what could turn out to be a major power player in Democratic politics within just a few years.
I also picked up a Media project with pay on Saturday. I’ll be launching a Facebook Page for The Freeway Blogger (TFB), who can be found here at Daily Kos as freewayblogger, on Twitter as @PatrickRandall and soon on Facebook! I’ll be doing regular upkeep and daily posts for the page, and social media shares of images just like this one:
Freeway Blogger wants to ratchet up his blogging activities to include recruiting of people in other regions and cities in America (and around the world) to take up Freeway Blogging. So the FB page will include images of his latest freeway blogging images and videos about how to create cardboard blogging signs for PENNYs and lots of encouagement to take up the fine art of Political Speech in the 21st Century from the modern ‘public square’, which is the highway system and the fences, trees and structures which border it.
Of couse, I’ll be doing some Daily Kos cross-posting about freeway blogging from time to time, too. Because EVERYONE should be doing it in their local Indivisible Groups. It’s very inexpensive, easy to create, easy to install and if you live in a suburban or urban zone, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands could read your message in a single day.
How was your Weekend?
