(Personal rant)
I am at the point of exhaustion with Republicans. When I first got into Democratic Party politics years ago, I could be civil with local GOP people. I did it out of necessity, because you are near them a lot at polling places for example. I mean they weren’t my friends, and I didn’t like them, but I went through the motions.
I find that harder and harder to do since this past year. I can’t get a coherent message out of Republicans except “Libtard,” “Snowflake,” “Participation trophy,” “safe space,” etc. I mean they have taken on Trump persona. They don’t even mouth the “small government” bullflop they used to.
I can even take this, because I have a thick enough skin and don’t really care what they think.
Here is what I can never forgive as long as I live.
In 2008, the US elected its first African-American President. I was ecstatic that night as I am sure others were on this site. I remember hearing vague “birther” chatter from the fringe at the time, but didn’t think much of it.
Then Donald Trump turned it into a thing. If you recall he had “investigation teams” in Hawaii finding out all kind of interesting things. He then gave the worst racial dogwhistle there is: that Obama’s family faked his birth certificate for “Welfare.” My blood boiled. Thinking of the history of state sponsered terrorism against African-Americans in this country, we finally had a black President and this type of racism was being rewarded with attention.
Almost every white Trump voter knew about this, couldn’t have cared less. White Privilege is a thing. Forgive who may, I can not.
