Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another.
Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.

Seeking some folk music examples on YouTube, I found this amazing assembly of the most popular music in America from 1840 to 2013. It’s just a few bars of each song. But you’ll be amazed at how many of them you know as American standards:
Born in 1961, I was the literal “child of the 60s” and anyone of my age knows this song as a classic folk song of the 60s, what many don’t notice is that it is a Freedom Song about the end of the Southern Rebellion, the Confederacy. Considering the past weekend’s events, I thought it a fitting piece to include in today’s Monday Music post...
And one by America Folk Singer/songwriter, Arlo Guthrie son of one of the most well-known American folk singers of all time, Woody Guthrie.
What I did this weekend
I was offline most of the weekend, unlike most of my weekends, when I’m online all day and all night long. What did I do offline? Fun and games with the grandbabies, of course.
Nothing really interesting to report, only that it was a quiet and peaceful weekend, because I refused to turn the new on. We did enjoy some new (to me) films: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Allied, Arrival, Deepwater Horizon, Hacksaw Ridge.
We also enjoyed (thoroughly) a lessening of the temperatures from Hell on Earth (106) to something you can live with (79).
How was your weekend?
