As the traditional media continues to remember how much of a white supremacist dickhead Donald Trump and most of his supporters are, more and more “leaders of industry” have begun searching for places to jump off this administration’s flaming boat of fascism and failure. Under Armour’s CEO Kevin Plank has decided that today’s as good as any to separate himself and his company from the orange dictator-wannabe, saying that he is leaving Trump’s “manufacturing council.”
The decision comes amid the blowback against Trump for his response to the events in Charlottesville, Va over the weekend. Ken Frazier, the CEO of pharma giant Merck, announced Monday morning that he was leaving the council over the response to Trump's response to Charlottesville, prompting angry tweets from the President.
“I am appreciative of the opportunity to have served, but have decided to step down from the council,” Plank said in a statement posted on Under Armour’s official Twitter account Monday evening. “I love our country and our company and will continue to focus my efforts on inspiring every person that they can do anything through the power of sport which promotes unity, diversity and inclusion.”
Plank isn’t a hero. He’s a guy that doesn’t want to be the dead canary in the coal mine.
Plank faced his own critical lashback in February after complimenting Trump’s industry initiative during the initial travel ban drama.
“To have such a pro-business president is something that is a real asset for the country,” Plank told CNBC in February.
Plank deserves some credit but the important news here is that it is nice to see some of these opportunists fleeing as a symbol of the walls beginning to close in on Trump and his ilk. Head over to discuss some more over here.
