Dear lord, I take a few days off to tend to some personal shit, and the world goes to hell in a handbasket. Can’t I leave these people alone for five little minutes? I am not going to do any deep analysis of the events of last weekend, there have been plenty of diaries covering that tragedy by people much more intelligent and eloquent than I. But before I start, I have a quick announcement. From this day forward, to the best of my abilities, the phrase “Alt-Right” shall never escape my fingers again. I will be calling them exactly what they are, fucking Nazi’s and racists. “Alt-Right” is, to my mind, an apologists phrase, it makes them sound like they have a perfectly reasonable but contrarian point of view. Try telling that to Heather Heyer.
El Presidente Pendejo has once again opened a serious rift, with possible serious implications in the Republican party. And he did it for the same reason he always does this shit. Because he’s a fucking moron with the political sense of a liver fluke. His weak tea denunciation for the violence, and his assertion that counter protesters were as much to blame as the haters was stupid, and the 48 hour wait to denounce them by name was brain dead. If he had gone out there on Saturday afternoon and called out the the pocket SS and the bedsheet boys by name, did he honestly think that they would have taken him seriously? Hell, when I yelled at one of my kids for doing something stupid, they never thought that I didn’t love them anymore. They wold have taken it for what it was, political theatrics to cover his ass, no harm, no foul.
The events of this weekend may end up having unintended repercussions for the administration what will echo for weeks. Up until Saturday, Bannon’s full tongue embrace of the Nazis and KKK wannabes was really not discussed much, attention was more centered on his desire to deconstruct and demolish the apparatus of the entire government. And Sebastian was just some air headed twink who was just picking up a free paycheck on our nickel, he was that uncle that watches Fox that everybody tries to avoid on Thanksgiving.
Trump and the Twitler Youth changed that this weekend. The shameful spectacle in Charlottesville this weekend put the neo-Nazi, fascist issue in this country into sharp focus, and it shined a bright spotlight on the beliefs of the cancerous individuals in Trump’s White House. When Trump failed to call out the hate groups by name on Saturday, and tried to spread the blame, he left it up to the Representatives and Senators to do it for him, and they did, and chastised him as well for being too big of a wuss to do it himself. Now that the Sieg Heiler’s and cross burners have reminded everyone just what Bannon, Gorka and Miller really stand for, Republican officeholders will have no choice but to loudly demand that they be purged from the White House, they’ve already loudly denounced everything this unholy triumvirate stands for.
This is going to be a knock down, Battle Royale cage match. Trump cannot tolerate being told what to do, but the GOP caucus has no choice, they must excise this cancer from the image of their party, 2018 is going to be tough enough. To my mind, Sebastian Gorka is not long for this world, White House speaking. He has no actual portfolio, serves no useful purpose, and is a natural patsy to be the first lemming to go over the cliff. Forget superpower, Gorka is going to be run over by a hyperpowered bus. Miller will be tougher, he serves an actual purpose, is in on policy matters and writes some of The Inglorious Basterds speeches, and his connection is better hidden, he keeps his head down. But the pressure will be on to send him packing as well.
Bannon is going to be the main event. Trump dotes on him, and he is the most direct and beloved link to the pinhead haters. The spotlight on Bannon has already started leaks about how he is despised by most of the staffers and advisors around Trump. He is going to be on an island. And his world class pissing contest with McMaster is going to be his ultimate downfall. Anyone who thinks that Kelly is going to side with Bannon over McMaster is out of their minds. And if Kelly threatens to take a hike if Bannon remains, Trump is in a box. The entire GOP will be screaming for Bannon’s head on a platter, saint John style, and if he lets Kelly resign, he will be branded as running a fascist White House.Drive away the skinheads, or drive away every sane Republican voter, the choice will be his.
If Bannon goes, Trump has lost his Fourth Reich and pointy head base. And their wrath will be terrible to behold. They will slam him for being just another faker, a weak loser without the balls to stand up for their shared beliefs, a true “cuck” in every sense of their word. But the simple fact of the matter is that they have to go. The asshole leaders are already publicly exonerating Trump for his statement, and they’re vowing to step up the campaign, hold more rallies to expedite our return to a non existent Aryan Paradise. The guilt-by-association for the GOP if there is still a clear or inferred connection between the racist slobs and the White House will sink the GOP 2018 battleship for sure.
This will matter in 2018. Watch the polls for the next couple of weeks. Gallup’s daily tracking on Monday had Trump at an abysmal 34%, and that was before the Charlottesville events had time to factor in completely. His refusal to denounce the groups involved by name for so long will drive off more non Trombie “change” voters. If and when the purge is completed, the neo-Nazi’s will crawl back into their holes, and they will be gone as well. If that happens, a mid 20’s popularity rating is not out of the question.
The GOP writ large has screwed itself here. The weak kneed reluctance in its members to denounce Trump in fear of losing his skinhead base has turned off moderate and sane Republicans. If Trump is forced to drive off the fascist right himself, they’ve lost them too, and have absolutely nothing to show for their lack of courage or ethics. Charlottesville and any future clashes will be brought up in commercials and Democratic candidate speeches so often that the entire GOP congress may as well make it official and just move there. This is the true double whammy nightmare scenario the GOP has been dreading. The loss of their generic base to Trump’s idiocy, as well as the only real thing he ever brought to the party, the haters. Who is left?
And please, don’t give me that “Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line” shit again, I’ve had it up to my ears. As far as I’m concerned, the Republicans didn’t fucking fall in line! Trump lost by 3 million popular votes, and underperformed in traditional “red” states, not even clearing 50% in Arizona and Utah, and barely clearing 50% in Texas. Trump won by a total of 70,000 votes in three states, and Robert Mueller is hell bent for leather to determine if professional Russian microtargeting of messaging in key districts may have contributed to that. Trump has done nothing to attract the people he turned off in 2016, and is fact bleeding non traditional GOP support that voted for change. If he loses the only thing he brought to the table, the neo-Nazi’s, the entire GOP is in the hurt locker.
